About Dakshin Cafe

Dakshin means "south", and Dakshin Cafe is a South Indian restaurant on Mowry Avenue in Fremont, run in partnership with Sri Catering. Its menu is built around the dosa, and it treats the thin, crisp rice-and-lentil crepe as the star rather than a side item.

What to order

Masala dosa: the classic, folded around spiced potato
Mysore masala dosa: lined with a fiery red chutney before the potato goes in; hotter and more garlicky
Plain dosa: the simplest way to judge the batter
Kids cone: a dosa rolled into a cone, a good introduction for children

Every dosa comes with sambar (a tangy lentil stew) and chutneys. Beyond dosa, the menu covers other South Indian tiffin dishes, and the restaurant also runs a curry counter and catering.
