Angara's downtown restaurant on Queen Street West is part of a small Toronto group with further locations in Etobicoke and Scarborough. As the name says, it serves both Indian and Hakka food, the Indo-Chinese cooking that Toronto's Kolkata Chinese community made a city staple.

What to order

The grill section is the highlight. Angara offers several marinades for both paneer and chicken tikka:

• Kashmiri paneer tikka (ginger, garlic and yoghurt), mint paneer tikka, and creamy malaiwala paneer tikka. Order the trio to try all three.
• Hariyali chicken (mint, coriander and chilli), Afghani chicken tikka (cashew and cream) and kali mirch (black pepper) tikka. Again, the chicken trio is the best way in.
• Hakka: chilli chicken, Manchurian and hakka noodles

Good to know

• Outdoor seating, with good beer and cocktail lists.
• Table booking is recommended at weekends.
